Overview

SUMMARY

 

Bering Professional Services, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation, is currently seeking a qualified Linux Engineer to work with our government client, in Washington D.C.  The successful candidate will assist in standing up, maintaining, and troubleshooting for 300+ virtual and physical Linux servers. They will interface with the Linux system administration team and the Technical/Team lead

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Monitors and responds to hardware and software problems.
  • Implements upgrades and patches. Provides morning checks of servers/application. Complies with existing change management and security requirements to properly authorize and document work.
  • Manages the enterprise backup solution to ensure that routine data backups and restores are conducted and verified and that tapes are managed as prescribed.
  • Provides system administration on Red Hat Linux servers.
  • Installs, configures, and maintains server hardware, operating systems, applications, and supporting peripherals.
  • Ensures the availability of enterprise computing environments through daily, preventive, and remedial maintenance.
  • Assists with asset management and inventory of IT assets.
  • Perform System Administration on for the Linux environments
  • Ensure a highly available production environment through troubleshooting and remediation of highly technical problems.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent certifications, military, or work-related experience
  • 5+ years of Linux system administration skills, preferably Red Hat Enterprise Linux using command line interface
  • Deep understanding of 'Core Services' like but not limited to DNS, DHCP, SMTP, HTTP, Systems Management, Bash, etc.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

 

  • Ability to work in a team environment with engineers and support internal and external customers
  • Ability to multitask working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Basic Windows system administration skills

 

 

 

Preferred

 

  • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
  • HP server hardware administration experience
  • Netbackup experience
  • Red Hat Satellite experience
  • Ansible/Ansible Tower experience
  • SAN experience
  • Understanding of networking protocols & equipment, server hardware, security & architecture
  • 4 years detailed experience with Red Hat Linux Operating Systems
  • Understanding of bash shell scripting; Perl/python a plus
  • Understanding of kickstart install scripting
  • Worked on systems with a web facing presence and understand high availability design.
  • Knowledge of Tomcat, Java, and Jboss
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Ability to clearly document system designs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily in a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
